Straight Shot – Perri Lynch Warren G. Magnuson Park

About

I shouldn’t have been surprised that the first public art piece I would photograph would be a beaconing omen of the projects cause. Incidentally, I discovered that Straight Shot was affected by Seattle’s apparent growing pains. A once multi-column sculpture designed with laser precision, Straight Shot is now just a lone soldier consisting of only one column. Its remaining structure is more of a tombstone than a sculpture. Straight Shot was here, void of its soul, its fundamental design. None-the-less, its skeleton remains as soccer-enthusiasts take their own shots and “bend it like Beckham”.

NOTES

8/19/18 – The goal of the Seattle Art Map project is to preserve the history of public artworks as they are captured. Seattle is a booming city and as it grows and changes to accommodate new skyrises, transplants and less public space, its public artworks will have to accommodate the ballooning city. buildings will be torn down and rebuilt by newer more modern structures. This is inevitable. Like your favorite childhood t-shirt you once outgrew, in its adolescence, Seattle too will have to decide what to do as they out-grow the space that holds their public artworks.
